Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin  |  No Comments »

Subscription-based satellite radio service is at the forefront of the US music market. Long gone are the days when people when the only option was in choosing from just one or two measly stations that had poor reception and overbearing, irritating disk jockeys and commercials!

However, local radio stations generally don’t fear the satellite radio revolution, predicting their survival in much the same way basic television has survived, despite the emergence of cable in the 90s. There’s a lot to love about satellite radio and it’s no surprise that Sirius Radio is ranked no. 1 Fastest Growing Company for 2007 (by Deloitte Technology).

First of all, satellite radio provide you with a high-quality digital signal that can transcend geographic borders by beaming down from three geosynchronous communications satellites orbiting around the Earth. Many channels feature CD-quality sound, static-free.

Secondly, subscribers have the choice of over 130 different satellite radio channels, ranging from various rock sub-genres to several news radio sources. This is great news for people who regularly listen to alternative sub-genres like Punk Rock, Death Metal, Christian Rock or Electronica! Satellite radio blends the best of both worlds – the specific ambiance of a CD, with Read the rest of this entry »

Pop Music Bubblegum Kings: Where Are They Now?

Posted on June 23rd, 2010 by admin  |  No Comments »

Pop music bubblegum kings have a history that traces back to the 80s when groups like the New Kids on the Block, and New Edition became rather popular with audiences. In essence, these were the first boy bands to hit the scene. The term didnt quite catch on until pop music of the 90s became saturated with numerous male groups, such as the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and MTVs own, O-Town. Today, while pop princesses dictate the airwaves, it brings one to ponder, where have all the American bubblegum pop music kings gone?

Backstreet Boys

You may not know this, but the pop music sensation in the 90s, the Backstreet Boys, are still alive and kicking and planning the release of a new album. The group, minus Kevin Richardson, has made a transition from their teen pop roots to more of a pop rock group. They now play their own instruments to supply their background music.

Through the middle of the 90s and 2000s, the Backstreet Boys enjoyed raging success across the world, provoking teenage girls to swoon at the very mention of their names. In the era of boy bands, they still hold the title of selling more albums than any other Read the rest of this entry »

Product reviews: P360 wind up radio

I live in the middle of the country and sometimes go for picnics and spend a lot of time in the forest. One thing I really do enjoy is to be able to listen to music and up until I got this radio, my Walkman was enough, although sometimes with the local radio here, it gives you a chance to listen to new music and I bought this radio as an alternative. I actually do not enjoy imposing my sound on other people, and here the radio has the answer as most radios do these days, by having a little socket for a headset.

This is an FM/AM radio and you have the choice of colors, a nice Turquoise like mine, Pink or Grey.

SO WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS ONE ?

Compared to normal radio, this one comes into its own because it is solar powered ! Not only that but it has a nifty little gadget at the back which converts stored energy into electricity simply by turning the handle.

They actually put a lot of thought into this radio because there is a solar panel to capture energy and the wind up handle turns either to the right or the Read the rest of this entry »

Sheffield Music: 5323’09′N 128’10″W

Though formed in 1973, it was not until punk rock had open the doors for musical experimentation that Sheffield’s Cabaret Voltaire were given a platform for their work in found sound and confrontational musique concrte. Cabaret Voltaire were signed to Rough Trade in 1978 and began releasing singles, the same year that contemporaries of Cabaret Voltaire would form under the name Clock DVA. Adi Newton, of Clock DVA and a musician who worked with Cabaret Voltaire, has previously been in a band called The Future with Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware, who would start the Human League. With the addition of Philip Oakey, the Human League would release the experimental single ‘Being Boiled’.

After two albums, the founding members of the Human League were removed and the remaining members went into a pop oriented direction, leading to the release of 1981′s ‘Dare’ and the synth pop defining hit single ‘Don’t You Want Me’. The team of Marsh and Ware formed their own synth pop group, Heaven 17, who charted with ‘Temptation’ and ‘Let Me Go’ from ‘The Luxury Gap’. In 1981, fellow Sheffield band ABC scored a hit with ‘Tears Are Not Read the rest of this entry »

Many artists have come and gone not lasting very long, but Madonna somehow seems to have learned the art of reinventing herself. Since the 80’s Madonna has been on the billboard charts with the latest music and fashion that cannot be compared to any other artist in history.

In the 80’s Madonna had #1 hit’s like Material Girl, Like a Virgin and Lucky Star making her and instant pop star. Madonna also brought fashion with an armful of rubber bracelets, torn shirts and tights turning the style into a fad. It seemed like every girl had turned to Madonna for fashion advice.

The 90’s was also a big Century for Madonna with her Blond Ambition Tour she wore a dress designed by the Famous French designer Jean-Paul Gautier that caused some controversy with cone style breast. In 1996 Madonna played Eva Peron and wore a Christian Dior dress as she played a mother. Although her acting career has not been as large as her music career Madonna is always an exciting artist to watch both on stage as well as in the movies.

Today Madonna has done it again with the latest music hits. Not only has technology grown but Madonna has grown Read the rest of this entry »

Finding legal and free music downloads

Posted on June 16th, 2010 by admin  |  No Comments »

Looking for free and legal music download? The good news is that other people have already done much of the work for you-bloggers. There are countless music/mp3 blogs out there devoted to a range of genres of music, many of which offer free downloads (or links to free downloads) of the artists they write about.

One blog I read frequently is largeheartedboy (blog.largeheartedboy.com), a “music blog featuring daily free and legal music downloads as well as news from the worlds of music, literature, and pop culture,” as its author describes it. Every day he posts links to download live shows as well as tracks from new albums.

You, however, will probably want to find free and legal downloads of music that you, not I, like. One way to do this would be to use the Hype Machine (http://hype.non-standard.net/ ), a website that serves as an mp3 blog aggregator; that is, it tracks the songs and music discussed on some of the top music blogs and lets you explore and search them in convenient ways. Try searching for a favorite artist of yours and see what comes up. Or use it to listen to some of Read the rest of this entry »
